Monday's Link: TeachAde.com

As working teachers, we at ESL Kingdom are always looking for new websites and resources that can assist us in our classrooms as well as in our professional development. So, every Monday, we’ll be sharing a link to a website that we use and think you may find useful. This week, it’s the turn of TeachAde.com. We mentioned this site a while back but think it’s worth mentioning again. TeachAde.com is the “first social networking website designed specifically for educators”. Check it out here.

fun langauge tool

Wordsift is a fun tool - designed by Gregory Wientjes, a doctoral student at Stanford University - to help both educators and learners visualise language. According to their website, they hope users see Wordsift "as a toy in a linguistic playground that is available to instantly capture and display the vocabulary structure of texts, and to help create an opportunity to talk and explore the richness and wonders of language!" Check it out here.

How We Really Use English

According to their website, the “Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) is the largest freely-available corpus of English, and the only large and balanced corpus of American English” which helps educators track “current, ongoing changes in the language.” Check it out at: http://www.americancorpus.org. They also have a British National Corpus which tracks 100 million words between 1970s-1993: http://corpus.byu.edu/bnc/.
